I currently live in Scotland with my wife and daughter but we are in the process of moving to the States. I have a job lined up to start whenever we get back and my wife and I both currently work now. Am I able to start looking/applying for a mortgage now or will I need to have started my new job in the States before lenders will look at my application?
No, you don't have to wait till you come back to start the loan process. How far away from moving back are you? Most loans are taking 60-90 days to close after you find your home and have an offer accepted. So if you want to move in the next 2-6 months now is the right time to start the loan qualification process. If you need anything else I would be glad to help.

I have a lender that will be able to assist you as long as you can provide your offer letter from your employer, If you would like his information, please feel free to email me.

Michael,
We would certainly agree with getting started "sooned than later" with the mortgage process however your unique situation may make things more challenging.
Our recommendation is to obtain a letter of verification from your future employer in the United States. Consider applying for funding through several different sources. Remember to request a "good faith estimate" from each....this is a written account of the programs and rates the agent quotes you on.
Best wishes with your move.

I would start the process as soon as you can with a lender of your choice. The sooner you know how much you qualify for, the sooner you can start working with a REALTOR® to find your families new home.
Each lender will have different requirements regarding employment and employment history in determining how much you qualify for. Given your situation starting a new job, the underwriters will evaluate everything you can document.
Call 866-256-4621 or visit http://www.century21mortgage.com where you can find out more about applying for a mortgage.
If you don't already have a REALTOR® in mind in the city you are moving to, I can connect you to our Relocation department and they can find you a qualified agent to work with you prior to your arrival.
