I am purchasing a REO property. Is there any way to research if a survey has been done on the property. Do?

Survey's aren't matters of public record so you'd have to ask the agent or lender if they have one, most REO's wont. Josh makes valid points; you might be able to use the plat and get an idea of things. I however usually recommend my buyers get a survey if we don't obtain one through the negotiations (I always ask for a recent one). At the end of the day I consider that money well spent.

Survey done on an REO? Not likely.

Do you need a survey? Usually the answer is that it couldn't hurt. It depends on where the property is and what you intend to do with it. If you have a home in subdivision and you plan to put a fence up or you have neighbors with fences already up, you might want to get one. Buying a home with land? I'd get one there too.

Most people don't get them though.
