I am new on the site. Can one pick on Trulia homes with 1 or 2 levels and only in certain neighborhoods?

I need to filter the homes that show up and I cannot figure out how to select only homes on one level or at most with a day-light basement. Also I want to be more specific about an area (e.g. MT. Tabor, etc.) What's the way to do this?

Hi Susie,

I know that some sites are confusing. I would suggest emailing Trulia and telling them of the difficulty. If you house hunting.. I would suggest you check out http://www.PortlandHomeAuction.com. You can find all the "deals" around town. Good Luck!

Link below takes you to listing search page which has: * area map on which you can drag and drop any size rectangle around specific area you want to search * icons of property locations color coded with pop ups when cursor is placed on icon * key on left bottom half of page shows color codes of various types of properties * input for more detailed search on center and right bottom of page e.g. one story * if you choose to do so, you can save your search for when you return. (My policy is to not contact people who are in the initial search phase for a home unless they ask. Your privacy and respect for your needs to sort things out comes first. You may contact me if you choose to at any point)

Hi Susie,

The RMLS database is capable of capturing some of the information you're looking to search/filter on ... but your search results are dependent on two things:

1. whether or not the listing inputs the info (i.e. single level, daylight basement, etc.)
2. whether or not the IDX feed (stands for Internet Data Exchange) provides the searchable field your interested in filtering on via third party sites (not every database field in RMLS is searchable by the public through IDX-enable third party sites).

Sorry for the hyper-technical answer, but the MLS services are still playing a bit of catch up with what's possible. Alternatively, you can have an agent who has access to RMLS setup fairly refined searches for you based upon your specific criteria. Any agent will be able to tell you what's available as a searchable field and what's not. But remember, it's dependent upon if that specific field is defined in the database and more importantly, whether or not the listing agent input the data.

Thanks to everyone who responded this promptly. I will try out the suggested sites. At this time I am looking at being "self-sufficient" with the best possible filtering/alert tool (e.g. one that allows me to specify the neighborhood, the type of the house including the style and the number of levels). When I have learned enough to feel comfortable pursuing something, only at that time will I turn to someone for more hlp. So if anyone is familiar with a very good filtering/alert tool that I can use on my own, that's what I would like to have access to.

Here's an interactive search tool that you might enjoy:

http://www.portlandwaterfront.com/portlandmetro/

Type in Mt Tabor in the "City, Community, Tract, Zip" field and see the results come up instantly.

Hello Susie,
Trulia would not be your best source for your home searching. To get in in-depth view of your favorite Portland neighborhoods including Mt. Tabor,
check out: http://relocationtoportland.com/portland-neighborhoods/
This link will include places of interest in your chosen neighborhood, all of the homes for sale, Walk Score, and you can narrow it down to your specified criteria.
If you see any Portland homes that interest you, my time is always available to preview it with you.
Hope you enjoy the site.
Thank you,

FIRST ANSWER

'morning Susie,
I use the Trulia site for all my listings, but have never used it to search for homes. I can direct you to my excellent search site at http://www.fabulousportland.com . As a buyer, you can click on your preferred neighborhoods and indicate a price point (I can input for you MANY other search parameters, such as levels, # of bedrooms, baths, square footage, schools, much more) and receive daily updates with properties that meet your preferences. It's free, of course, and no obligation. I would love the opportunity to earn your business.
All the best,
