I am looking into buying a duplex with an added 1br small bungalow in the back. It has been

totally remodeled, but the electrical meters have not been installed. I have been told to check with the city to see what needs to be done to have them installed. How do I go about this?

Hi Ryan,

Call the Department of Building and Safety. It would be wise to ask them to check to see if these improvements have been done to code, which means you need to get an inspector out there. Then you can ask them what the steps are to call the power company, get the meters in, and then arrange for the inspectors to sign off on that step.

Ryan,

Have you checked to see if the 1 br is permitted? If not, that can cause a serious issue in the future. If it has been permitted, you want need to speak with a building rep at City hall. I currently have two duplex's for sale in mid wilshire, If i can be of assitance to you, feel free to call me or check out my website. 310.746.8444

Hi Ryan,

Just go to the city hall and ask for the building department representative. That person should be able to pull all the permits and will tell you what you would need to do to add the electrical meters and ensure the property is in compliance.

Good luck!
