You've gotten good input on Morris County so I'll stick to Somerset County - we've got some good values to offer out on the tax/school basis: consider Basking Ridge, Warren, Watchung, Bedminster (lowest tax rate of the bunch - feeds into Bernards High along with Bernardsville - has own elementary and middle schools), and Bridgewater.

If you'd like more detail on the Somerset County options, I'd be happy to help.

Hi Teddybear,
Morris County is my beat, so I can help you there (Not Sommerset though).
As pointed out by my colleagues, low taxes and good schools usually mean higher home prices, as you would expect.
I would suggest looking at Florham Park , E.Hanover and Hanover to see if that suits your needs.
Be happy to help you there, just call my cell 201-618-0309, or search my site.
Good luck!

That's a loaded question. Both counties have good school systems and the taxes differ all over. It would be interesting to see a ratio of school ranking vs taxes but I am not aware that there is such one. However, there is relationship between the price of the home and taxes, with a few exceptions, the ratio the higher the price the higher the taxes. However, with the issue of taxes you’re not talking a huge difference between similar towns. I don’t think you should give up on area because taxes are few thousand more or less in a particular town. Where ever you buy I suggest you consider the long term of being in town vs the short term tax savings.
I hope that was helpful

Check out these sites for information concerning schools:

of go the town in question's own web site.

Tax rates are public infomation and can be obtained at town hall. Or you can contact a realtor like me.

Well if nobody else chimes in here, you may want to research taxes on your own at http://www.njactb.org and try finding info on the school systems by searching them on http://www.google.com

If I was familiar with the area I would be better able to answer your question. Sometimes questions like this will be avoided since answeres could be considered "steering" which is frowned upon :(
