Call the Garland PD and ask for the Community Resource officer or CRO. They're usually glad to point you in the right direction and with available statistics. One thing I always caution buyers about is while you can do an online search for example of child sex offenders, you can't guarantee one won't move in next door tomorrow, or that they aren't already in the neighborhood and just haven't been caught or prosecuted for that crime. So although I don't know if I'd buy a home knowing one was next door, it doesn't predict the future. I think alarm systems help and getting to know your neighbors helps. August 7th is National Night out. Your CRO can advise you if there will be a block party that night. Even if you haven't closed you might get out in the neighborhood that night. If there's not a party help organize one. Let me know if you need more info or help purchasing.
