Sounds like Nigel and Grace would be a great resource to start with. I've sold properties sight unseen to folks in other states based on virtual tour info, but as a buyer you would need to be very explicit as to what you're looking for with and agent you have developed a good relationship with.

Obviously a good time to deploy some euros in the US market. Depending on whether or not you actually have a form of VISA or are an actual foreign national, loan programs still eixst, both full documentation and stated loans. If a foreign national, you would be looking at 25-30% down, otherwise if here on a VISA normal lending rules would apply. Please feel free to call with any questions,

Hi Dan,
I am a Real Estate Broker in the Des Moines area and also moved here from England in 2001. Everyone's answer is right, but your situation may not be so simple.

Are you citizens? permanent residents? etc etc. If you are paying cash, then buying a house is fairly easy. If you have no credit here, then buying will be difficult obviously. If you want to email me specific information then I will guide you in the right direction :)

I agree with Michael. You must do your home work then plan on spending a few days looking with a Realtor in person before you buy.

Dan,
I would never buy real estate site unseen. Plane tickets are cheep compared with the price of a home. It's a great time for Europeons to be buying but I'd do my home work then plan on spending a few days looking with a Realtor in person before you buy. Be sure to set your financing up ahead of time too.
Michael
