Peg,

First, I'd defer you to your agent who should be more than happy to supply you with this info; however, I must concur with the previous posters in that most often, this info is irrelevant pursaunt to current market conditions.

You can try http://www.ocnjtax.com/ and click (to the right) OC.taxrecords.com. There you can input the address of the home in questions.

Peg if the current value of the home is 300,000.00 does it matter if they paid 400,000.00 or 200,000.00? The property is worth what the property is worth regardless of what the current owner paid for it. Make your offer based on what you want to pay for the home not on what they paid for it.

Just my 2 cents!

Variation #6. (ha - Hi John!)

Peg....it's simple.........if the house was multiple listed, any agent can look it up for you........unless they bought it a very long time ago (in which case what difference does it make what they paid for it). Do you have an agent? if so, ask him or her.....if not, then find an agent.

Hi Peg,

I guess you get the pont by now... 5 people telling you that you can go to the county clerk, township, tax records.. to get this information. Lets see how many more variations we get!

Again, email me the address and maybe I can save you the trip or phone call.

Peg,

If you really want to learn everyrthing about a home and the records of that home simply go to the county clerk's website. For a home in Jackson and the rest of Ocean County it would be http://www.oceancountyclerk.com and click on "records" on the left then "land records" on the right.

That website will give you tax information, mortgage information, notices sent to the homeowner, etc. It is practically the equivalent of a real estate rectal exam. However, be careful what you wish for. It may provide you too much information and will cause some homebuyers to feel that they know the seller inside and out. Tax recrods will not tell you how a homeowner thinks! A seller wants as much money out of their house in the same way that you want it for as little as possible. If you are working without an agent, DO NOT...I repeat DO NOT quote information to a seller like what their current mortgage is or how much they paid for the house. They will feel like you are attacking them for particpating the appreciation of their home during the first half of this decade. This is a delicate situation and the use of a real estate agent as a buffer is vital in this exact situation.

Give me a call if you want to chat further.

Good Morning!

Is this a short sale deal or regular sale? Do you have an agent to guide you
what the market is in that particular area? How come you ask this question you
might upset the seller if you offer that low. Again if you want to check what is the
purchase price then go to TAX ASSESOR office I agree with Kristen.

Dear Peg,
Hello! You can check the tax records or ask your agent for that specific information.

Are you basing your offer on what the seller purchased the home for? Better yet, why don't you research into recent sold comparables, the local market inventory, etc.? If you need help with this, please call or email anytime. I'd be happy to assist!
