I know many...

I never recommend inspectors but if a buyer needs one and doesn't know where to look, of course I'll give a few names. I like the arms length approach to recommending anyone but can supply a list of vendors past clients have used and were satisfied with the services and prices offered by the vendors.

Costs I find usually vary slightly from inspector to inspector in most cases, every now and again you'll get one kind of expensive but the level of effort inspectors put into their inspections can vary as well. Some inspectors don't even carry a ladder which is just inexcusable.

Don't start looking for a home inspector until you've made an offer, it's not that difficult to find a good one and should not take long either so don't concern yourself with an inspector at the home search stage.

Here are only a few reputable inspectors our clients have used before

Here is a link of New Jersey licensing authorities, contacting one of them may be able to assist as well.

Here is a link to check the New Jersey State directory to ensure your inspector is Licensed but you'd need to know the inspectors name or you can just search by city, not by company name as each inspector is licensed by the state.

Hope you find some of this info helpful and Good luck....

Hi Helen,
Here are a couple names and numbers of Home Inspectors that my company and I have used.
Ebert Home Inspections: 1-800-969-3110
American Home Consultants: Roz Smith: 1-800-924-3100
When scheduling your home inspection, make sure you tell them you want them to conduct a termite inspection as well as a radon test.
Always get quotes for rates, but a cheaper home inspector doesn't mean a better one.

Helen:
Your real estate agent should be able to assist you with this. I do not recommend individuals buying properties on their own without the representation of a REALTOR. Having said that, I have used Peake Home Inspectors (Brian Finnegan) 732-417-9273. You should contact him for their most current rates.
Best of luck!
