I am expecting to close on a house soon and live in Monroe mi 48161 I have found out that property taxes here are billed for the prior year meaning

that 2009 is not paid. the house is also non homesteaded at this point so I am looking at a $1350.00 bill in december and a $1290.00 bill in july . The taxes are paid up to date but monroe is unique in the fact that they bill for the prior year. I feel I am I am being taken for a ride and can't get my broker to understand they way they are billed here but do not want to walk away or propong the process of buying this house for tax credit purposes. Is it reasonable to ask the seller for a side aggrement to help recoupe some of therse costs. I am doing fha and we already have a side agreement for cash after closing for new appliances. They broker thinks summer taxes are billed july to july and I will owe her money back.. I am very frustrated I have signed a standard purchase agreement and the pre closing papers and loan has been submitted to the bank.. any advice.?

Margaret, you cannot have a "side deal" for anything when it comes to a mortgage. In fact, a couple of the documents you will sign at closing will want you to swear there are no side deals (you and the seller will sign) and that everything regarding the purchase is in the purchase agreement.

I would have a talk with your broker about not only the taxes, but about the cash for appliances. You do not want to do anything that could be considered fraudulent.
