I am a first time home buyer, my husband is not. Would we qualify for the tax credit if we bought this year?

My husband bought a home when he was single. Now we are relocating for his job and were wondering if we would qualify for the tax credit if we bought a home together this year since I would be a first time home buyer.

Hi Larabelle;
Couple of questions - does he still own the home?
If no - have he not owned property for the past 3 years - if not then yes you would both qualify.

If he either still owns it or has sold it in less than the previous 3 years, you would not be qualified as you are married and his position would negate yours.

I have additional tax credit information on my website http://www.robertanopson.com

I hope this helps.

If he has not owned a home in the last 3 years, I understand that he is considered to be a first time home buyer as well. Hope that helps.
