Oak Run is a great place to raise children and I would feel perfectly safe to raise my children there. I have listed and sold in Oak Run so I am very familiar with it. It is a highly sought subdivision. We have great schools in New Braunfels. I've never heard of any gang activity here. My daughter has two children and she's very happy with raising her children in New Braunfels. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance. I don't recommend Oak Run at all. The developer has ruined this neighborhood with changes to street layouts just to save a few dollars. The traffic within the community is insane for small children or anyone wishing to take a walk. A middle school (6-8) adjacent to the neighborhood will soon be accessable via a foot bridge (after the local citizens strongarmed the developer to live up to his agreement to build one). This will increase the number of children walking to school; a good thing. Unfortunately, access to this bridge will be along one of the few streets in the neighborhood that does not have a sidewalk and the commuter traffic roaring along this narrow street is out of control. The city will not consider posting speed limits, and the commuters seem to be more concerned about saving 10 seconds than the safety of any children. The expansion of Hwy 46 will only add to the noise, dust and stench that wafts over the neighborhood already. For the city as a whole, be very careful with your selection. The developers run the show here through the city planning office and the elected council. Even reviewing existing plats as part of your decision does no good when the developer sees a chance to make money, and there is very little you can do about it...except move. Oak Run is still growing. What you thought the layout was when you moved in could change for the worst. The developer does not live in the neighborhood and runs roughshod over the homeowners association. The city will answer for this with lower property values, a poorer school system and a bad reputation that will take years to fix.

Yes, it is safe and I'm legally allowed to tell you. ;-) There are other safe areas, as well, but this is considered very safe. To put your mind at ease, however, read crime stats at the websites listed above.

Hi Barbara! Oak Run is a very popular subdivision. The HOA incudes tennis courts and a swimming pool, and judging by the number of kids in it last night when I drove by, that a very well utilized spot! If by safe you mean what about sex offenders, a great place to find out information is the Texas Dept. of Public Safety website. They also have compiled stats county by county for 12 months,,,2006 seems to be the most current. Check the City of New Braunfels website under Police Dept. They have an online crime map that logs in reported crimes for the current month. If you have kids it is important to get information like this...please feel free to email me if you have other questions and concerns...I raised two girls here, thanks,

FIRST ANSWER

Hi Barbara,

That's a tough question to answer legally. We aren't really allowed to tell you if it's "great" or "safe". I can direct you to http://www.CrimeReports.com and you can search to see if there have been any recent crimes in the area. I can also tell you that it is viewed as a desireable neighborhood. We have had several clients buy homes in Oak Run (some who have children) and have been very happy.

I'm sorry I can't give you a more direct answer than that. I hope that information helps!

Have a great day,
Aja
