I believe your best first step as a buyer is to obtain a pre-approval letter from a lender, if you haven't done so already.
It's also a good idea to decide on an attorney, because if you find the perfect place, you want to be able to move fast and to impress the seller that you are a well-prepared buyer. Sellers have been known to accept lower offers from buyers who are ready to move forward.
