This is pretty easy to estimate; I recently helped a client with the same thing. It's just a matter of running a report on the comparative sales from that year. Feel free to send me the details and I can ballpark it.
Hi Larry,
If you wish - feel free to drop me an email with your neighborhood & property type and I will be more than happy to send you a list of sold homes from the San Francisco MLS from 2000. It will only take me a few minutes - so no big deal. Then you can compare those to your house and get a good idea of what your home was worth. If you need something more maybe hiring an appraiser would not be a bad idea.
The best way is to contact an appraiser for a retro-appraisal. Realtors are not licensed to determine market value. They are licensed to sell real estate and to estimate selling/purchase price. The accuracy of a Realtor determining the market value of your property 9 years ago would be very questionable to say the least.
Yes, a realtor has access to historic sales data.
ask your REALTOR to do a past sales history search of your or similar homes that are comparible.
