I'd like to add that when you are considering buying knock on a few neighbors doors. On either side, across the street and behind the home. They will give you information that may not show up on websites.

Have an amazing day!

Hi, Raj:

I have had the pleasure of selling three homes in that area, not that specific street, but close by and all three home owners are extremely happy with where they live.

I agree with the other respondents who note that 'safe' is a relative term. The gave you some wonderful websites to visit. They will give you a very good idea about the safety of the area.

Another thing to do is visit the area at different times of the day, or night, to actually see for yourself exactly what the area is like. 2 of my clients who moved to that area were able to do that and felt very confident that they were picking the right place to live.

Wishing you all the best in your home search.

I'm a believer in talking to neighbors and visiting nearby parks.

A "safe" neighborhood can quickly gain recent reports of crime for various reasons.
- Maybe many residents leave their doors unlocked attracting a quick rise in crime which quickly comes under control when all of the neighbors start calling the police whenever they see strangers entering backyards etc.
- Maybe a local high school kid is going through a bad phase.
- etc.

Crime reports are only part of the story. By talking to residents you get a feeling for a neighborhood. Sometimes even a good neighborhood may have a whole bunch of residents eager to leave because of changes that may or may not be important to you.

I have many links which are useful when looking at San Jose real estate posted at

Hi Raj,

Another tactic that I use (besides the ones mentioned below) when buying properties in areas I am not too familiar with, I drive the area until I find a police cruiser, and I ask them about the neighborhood. They will be straight with you and have no financial incentive to guide you in a wrong direction.

Every person has a different idea of what "Safe" means.
Every neighborhood has some type of crime. A good place to start is by looking at the website http://www.crimereports.com

Also check the megan's law database for sex offenders.
I also recommend you drive the neighborhood at night to see how things feel.

Good Luck and feel free to contact me if you have other questions.

Hi Raj,

Their is a lot information online to assist you in learning about any area. I would recommend checking the San Jose PD site for crime stats for the area. Then Google the area to see if there are any comments or reviews. And for checking the schools check the web site http://www.schoolandhousing.com. It will give you the neighborhood schools and the API scores. Driving the area at various times and speaking with the neighbors is another good way to find out about any area.

Good Luck and lets us know if we can be of further help.
