Different people will have very different values for what is safe. Go visit a nearby grocery store, buy food for a picnic and visit one of the parks. Talk with the people you meet. You will learn more than just about the safety. It can be worth your time.
Unfortunately some local developers and real estate professionals have helped create problems in the past by saying that a neighborhood is turning bad. Perhaps the largest local example of this is East Palo Alto. If you have talked with long time residents they will tell you how East Palo Alto was a typical bay area city. Roughly in the late 40s lower income people became attracted to the area. A certain amount of panic was created by various real estate professionals / developers saying the area was going to turn into a crime ridden slum. This was told to me by a now 90 year old man who had lived in the area, became successful and moved to Los Altos Hills. This and similar events have lead to laws prohibiting real estate agents from any activities which could cause damage to a neighborhood.

I used East Palo Alto as an example because of what was told to me. One of the best people I've had work for me lived in East Palo Alto. She had a college degree from a top university and was able to find work with pay and opportunities I could not match.

Unfortunately, Realtors will never comment on the relative safety of any area as it can violate fair housing rules. This is why we will refer you to websites that state crime statistics.
If you want an "on the ground" view of crime and safety in any area, it's best to knock on the doors of the neighbors homes and speak with them directly about their experiences. If you are buying in a townhouse community, thoroughly read the newsletters and minutes provided by the homeowners association as these documents often directly state what crime or vandalism occurs on the site or in the immediate area.

Putting things in perspective --- if you feel safe where you are, and it looks like the crime rates are about the same, will that make you feel better?
Even better...go to the places you are considering in your move --- drive around during the day and during the night, weekdays and weekends, and during rush offer to determine your work commute.
Then either stay, or run away
95132 is a great neighborhood. My friends have lived here in the last 10 years and very happy about the area. If you have children, then try to find a home that your children will be attending at Ruskin Elementary and Piedmont Hills high school.
You can visit my website, use "Find A Home", which is connected to Pro-MLS, to search for all 95132 current listings on the market.
Thanks and Best wishes,
This new generation is totally reliant on their computers, and cannot see a life beyond that.
My generation would never consider buying a house without checking out the neighborhood personally and meeting the prospective neighbors.
Were you going to buy based on some stranger's opinion?
I suggest buyers knock on neighbors doors to ask their opinion, visit the retail store and ask the employees, and visit the neighborhood at all hours of the day, night, weekends, and plan to test drive your own commute both ways.

Do you need listings emailed to you to study and compare? Do you have pre-approval, down payment and closing costs? If not you may consider FHA from a minimum 580 fico score and 3.5% down or as low as .5% half percent down payment program. You may qualify to buy with minimum out of pocket expenses as owner occupied purchase. Here are some links to study and consider that I offer.
