I've seen some pretty nice homes in that area.
With choosing any area to buy in, it's based on your house budget and basically if you like the neighborhood.

It's a simplistic answer to what could be a complicated question. Every buyer is different and any agent would need to sit with you to find out exactly what you want and need in a home.

It's all about finding the house you consider to be "The Home" for you.

Good Luck,
Let me know if I can help you.

@Everyone - thank you all for helping. I am updating this POST with our goals and 2 listings we liked.

Specifically talking about these 2 homes:
1) http://www.redfin.com/CA/San-Jose/7402-Basking-Ridge-Ave-951…
2) http://www.redfin.com/CA/San-Jose/717-Brandermill-Ct-95138/h…

Mixed feelings about it. When we saw it yesterday, we were thinking of putting down a contract on it. When we researched the area, we realized there were a lot of short sales close by. When the market tanks, I also heard this is one of the first areas to suffer. Is that real ?.

Our goals:
========

Single family home around 2K sq feet.
Relatively newer home - 10-15 yrs old
Not too worried about great schools. We have a 9 month old , we can send her to private schools when the time comes
Budget - 750 - 850K.

Real estate statistics show that home prices in 95138 have climbed back up close to the peak of 2006-2007. http://julianalee.com/zip-code/95138-statistics.htm

The number of homes being sold there is quite low (as it is in much of Santa Clara County).

Home prices near some of the big employers such as Google, Facebook, etc (Mountain View, Palo Alto, Los Altos) have climbed higher.

Buying a home in zip 95138 could be a good choice. With interest rates still quite low, you have a double advantage: your mortgage payment is lower and you actually build up equity quicker.

I agree with Terri, I suggest that you get with a good buyers agent and go over the specifics of what you are looking for. Unless you do that there is no way for us to be able to recommend where you should look in this zip code or not.

My experience shows it depends. You asked a very generic open ended question. Not knowing what you are looking at specifically, condos, homes, price, etc. And what your wants and needs are, it is impossible to answer this adequately.

I can give you an example. I have a very well priced condo in Silver Creek Country Club. http://www.5304SilverPoint.com . It has excellent school scores for elementary and middle school and it is priced $20,000 below the last sale. Then there are single family homes in the same community for over $1million dollars. Outside of the Country Club there are several different types of homes, condos and various school scores. They all reside within 95138.

A consultation with a Buyer's agent would be recommended so that they can get to know you and help you determine which neighborhood fits your expectation, evaluate your budget, and explain to you the market conditions for your needs.

Have an amazing day!

I think the best answer to this question is, "like most other zip codes in Santa Clara County". What interests you about this area? What are your needs and goals for a home purchase? These are just a couple of important questions to share with a Professional Realtor. I am sure David or James would be glad to help you. If you would like to understand your financing options, please give me a call at 408-957-7600.

The market in the San Jose area is very tight. Inventory is low, and buyers are competing for homes when priced well. It's typically not zip code based.

What are your goals for buying a home? What type of home are you looking at? Single Family? Condo/Townhouse?

Here is a link of available homes in the area:

I'll be happy to help with any specific questions!
