I've been renting an apt for almost 6yrs, and had the same job for just as long. Any one got ideas...i can't save up with what i'm paying on rent but when i'm paying 637/mth on rent. Plus utilities, one would think i could get a better deal and something that's not an apt. Help if ya can. Ty

Unfortunately a lot of potential home buyers find themselves in the same situation as yourself. You can check with the city you live in and see if there are any grants to help out. For instance, Fort Worth has down payment and closing cost assistance if you purchase a foreclosure home in certain zip codes of Fort Worth. It is a wonderful program that really helps a lot of people. The other piece of advice is to make sure that you keep up with your bills and watch your credit score. Lending regulations have tightened up and credit scores are critical. There is also some talk of down payment assistance programs coming back. However, even with this you must still save some money. There are other costs that you will have to pay for; inspections, appraisals, etc.. Look at your budget and see if there is anything you can cut out. Sometimes there isn't, but cutting out a pack of cigarettes a week and 1 fast food run, can potentially save you hundreds in a few months. Just a thought, these things might not even apply to you, but just look at your spending habits and see if there is anything that you could possibly cut. I wish you much luck in achieving your dream!

Hi JC.
You may be able to do a USDA loan and find a home in the price range you can afford.
Here is some info about the loan.

Then you can give a lender I recommend a call and see what you would qualify for.

Then let me know if you need a real estate agent.
Hope this helps.
