How does a realtor get paid? Who is responsible for making the payment - the buyer or the seller's agent?

Typically, how much does a realtor receive in commission? If it is the home buyer's responsibility, can it be put in the contract that teh seller's agent pay the commission?

Hi Kristi, looks like you got your answer - you asked a great question on a point that is often misunderstood. As a buyer you will be well served by the services of an experienced full time agent you trust, and now that you see that it is the seller that will pay the commission to both buyer and seller agent, there really is no reason not to engage the services of an agent.

Good luck to you!

FIRST ANSWER

Hi Kristi. In New Jersey, the commission is typically paid at the closing table from the seller's proceeds. The Checks are made payable to the agencies with whom the agent's are employed. The agent is then paid a portion of those proceeds from their agency.
