How do i find out if a Notice of Default has been filed?

Asked by Deoghe, Grand Rapids, MI Wed Oct 8, 2008

Is this public information that can be found at the county clerks office? This property is in Grand Rapids Mi.

In most cases they are published 3 weeks before the foreclosure auction in the local paper where the property is located. Realty trac picks up the notices from there. Your best bet is to search the web site of the local paper. it wont cost you anything to buy the information as all these new sites are charging you for info you can get on your owm

In the home search on Trulia, there is a selection of foreclosure. These properties come from Realtytrac and include Notice of Defaults. Homes on the site do not include an address without having a Realtytrac account but do include street name. I believe most homes also map correctly. This will at least help you narrow down the area for any home before you need to physically check at the clerks office.

This information is publicly available through your local county government office. It is also published in local newspapers, and sometimes taped to a foreclosure's door in many localities.

Hope this helps!
