Hi there,

There are very few open houses on the coast. Why? It's a small community and generally people buying along the north coast are from out of town. What are the odds that those buyers will be there the day we hold an open house? Instead, open houses bring in the nosy neighbors and possibly, people who want to case the home with criminal intent. Instead, it's better to contact a local Realtor(R) and let them know what you are interested in; they can set up some private showings and give you a better feel for the area. I work on the coast and inland a little, covering Elk to Fort Bragg and the Anderson Valley. I would be happy to help you with your search. My email is alfette@mcn.org or 707-937-9216.

In case you have not found your anwer by other means, here are some ways to find open houses on the Mendocino coast:

Most active agents are members of an MLS called BAREIS; they have a public portal at http://www.GreatHomes.com with a link to the Mendocino County on the upper left of the web page; once you click on Mendocino County, another page will appear, and right below the logo is a link titled Search Open Houses. At that point, you just need to plug in your parameters and click on "submit".

Another method is to subscribe to our local paper, the Independent Coast Observer http://(www.MendoNoma.com). Most open houses for the South-Coast (Elk - The Sea Ranch) are posted in it. I am not sure what paper agents use for the Mendocino - Fort Bragg area.

For our South Coast area, open houses are typically held on holiday weekends only, and usually on a Sunday.

Hope this helps.
