I think Anna gave you good advice when saying consider working with a buyers agent. I know in our multiple listing service it is in the agent comments. However, the public / buyers do not see if it is a short sale or not unless an agent writes a comment in the listing comments that are released to the public. Although I am on the West side of the State, so I am not sure how the MLS works in the area that you are looking in.
If looking to purchase any short sale property, and for accurate information, consider working with an agent--he/she can provide you with current available homes, new to the market, price changes, comps--recently sold similar properties in the immediate area, schedule showings etc.
