PropertyShark.com - amazing info for a free public site. It's got great San Francisco data - about half way down on it's San Francisco page at http://propertyshark.com/mason/san_francisco/index.html enter the "#" of the building, the name of the street, and click on "Look it up!" Whoola - great info.

I would also consult a Realtor like me or any of my SF colleagues here for currently For Sale as well as those in contract that haven't closed yet, and those that have Sold but have yet to reach the public databases like Property Shark's.

Usually public records, but that can be tricky! Try contacting a Realtor in your area and asking him/her.

You can find this information in public records. In most urban areas this is found in the county or city website. If the condo is brand new it might not be there yet. Your real estate agent can easily find this information for you. If you are buying a brand new condo, I urge you to get your own representation rather than using the builder's agent.

Ryan, it's true. Any agent can easily obtain this info for you. So, if you're working with someone, they should be able to assist. If you are not, I'm sure any of us on Trulia would be happy to help you. For me, I would just need an email with the address and I can send you a report or potentially post the results on my blog. We have an interesting metrics program too that can show the overall supply and demand of condos in the area. It's amazing to see how consistent San Francisco is even with the stagnation....gives a good bird's eye perspective.

Any realtor can get you the data your looking for. We have relationships with vendors that can provide the information and we also have access to our MLS data that contains sold info.

If you want to shoot me an email or call, I can email you a list of sales with in a few short minutes. I use a resource provided by Fidelity National Title, the largest title company in the US, that pulls data from county records. You could get the same data from a county clerk's or recorder's website, but I can probably do it faster - and it doesn't cost me anything. I'll need to know the address - that's it.

You have to go to the public records to get all sales.
Your local MLS will only show properties that have been listed with an agent. Talk to a local agent or escrow company. They should have access or go to your county website (usually takes some work, because most are not that user friendly).
Another way to get some information is to talk to the Property Manager and/or Resident Manager.
