The most accurate way to figure what home you can afford is to be prequlified by a mortgage broker. They take into consideration your income, credit scores, and several other items. However, from a consumer's point of view, a good rule of thumb is a mortgage payment is ROUGHLY 1% of the total price of the home. For example, if you purchase a $100,000 house, your payments would be ROUGHLY around $1,000 per month. Remember, this is just a ROUGH guide to "guesstimate" what you may be comfortable paying per month.

Hope this helps. If I can be of further assistance to you, please feel free to contact me directly.

Spring has reasonably priced homes, however, the tax rate may be higher than what you are accustom to. You will need to know specific tax percentages for the neighborhood you are considering as they all vary for different reasons. As was mentioned, a Realtor or loan officer could help you tremendously with that aspect of your transaction.

Spring and Houston are at the lower end of cost of living in the USA. A buyer probably has some idea of what they can afford based on what they have been paying for either rent or a house payment. If not, your realtor can help you estimate what is affordable according to your income. A mortgage broker can also be helpful.
