How can I remove inquiries from my credit report, and will removing them increase my score?

Asked by Sjonesu, Philadelphia, PA Sun Nov 24, 2013

I have a large amount of inquiries this year and want to get a loan for a rental property in Phila.

Inquires cannot be removed from your credit report. If there are negative comments you can go in and either challenge them or at the least enter your comments presenting the other side of the story.

Hello Sjones,

Inquires do not go away within 90 days I am looking at a report right now with 2 years of inquiries on them.

Inquiries go away within 90 days windows.
You can also write to 3 credit agencies and dispute erroneous information with them.

Hope this helps,

If alot of the inquiries are coming from your current credit cards or they are uping your credit lines you can call them and have them stop. If your credit lines are increased they are checking your credit everytime they do this.

Like the others have said, legitimate inquiries cannot be removed. If you ACTIVELY applied for the credit, then it is there. PASSIVE inquiries (such as pre-screened credit card offers that you have NOT responded to) have a minimal impact on your score if any.

If you were planning on making this purchase, you should probably not have applied for all that other credit.

Hello Sjonesu,

You can only remove inquires if they were done without your authorization ( express or implied). That means if you applied for credit and authorized someone to pull credit then you cannot have it removed. Anyone with which you currently have credit also has authorization to re-pull credit to review your account. It is unlikely that you will be successful in removing any inquiries.

Inquiries cannot be removed if they were legitimate and if anyone tells you they can do it for a fee, they are not telling you the truth.
