Your best bet is to find an intelligent, honest agent that's going represent you as a buyer's agent and will help you achieve whatever your real estate goals might be - whether that's investing for renting, buying and flipping or purchasing a primary residence. Most agents that specialize in REOs are working for their clients, the banks, so they won't necessarily be working in your best interests.
