How can I accurately know insurance costs on a Florida home I have found if I currently live out of state?

I have "found the house". I know price, taxes, but not insurance costs. I have heard that older homes, as this one is, will have significantly higher insurance costs. I cannot walk into this blindly. I must know all costs. This is a hinderance to me buying this or any home, and a hinderance to all realtors attempting to sell to incomers. I have asked the listing realtor with no help. Can anyone shed some light?

Unfortunately you can't unless you select and contact an agent for a quote. There is also another factor. Roofs over a certain age, this may vary by insurance company, must pass a roofing inspection and have a life expectancy of 5 years or more remaining. In my city the rates vary due to how many miles the home is from the ocean. I am providing a link to a State of Florida site that may help you find a company that will give you an accurate estimate and write the policy.

Best of luck to you.

You need to talk to several insurance agents and get quotes. I can give you the name of an agent I use, and suggest some others. If your home is located east of I-95, it probably will cost considerably more for insurance than if west of I-95. Best wishes, Marilyn Farber Jacobs, Realtor - marilynfjacobs@gmail.com.

The listing realtor should have been able to help you by providing contact info for insurance agents you can get quotes from. If you are applying for a mortgage, ask your mortgage professional. They should have contacts for you. Otherwise, do a google search. I currently have my homeowner's insurance through Allstate. I will be happy to give you my agent's info if you are interested in having him prepare a quote for you.

Hi Stefan,

Call several different insurance companies and ask for a quote on that particular property.
