Hi, my husband and I and our 3 kids might be moving to Atlanta, GA next summer. Details below:

Hi there, My husband and I (and our 3 kids) might be moving to Atlanta next summer so I can attend Emory. We found a charter school that seems ideal for our kids. The school serves kids living in Grant Park, Ormewood Park, East Atlanta, Boulevard Heigths, Woodland Heights, Benteen Park, Custer/McDonough/Guixe, Chosewood Park, Englewood Manor, South Atlanta, High Point, Joyland, Amal Heights, Betmar LaVilla and Lakewood Heights.
We are looking for a low-cost home so that we don't have to sell our current house in Minnesota. We would love to live in one of the neighborhoods above so that our kids can attend the charter school. Do you think it is feasible to find a house in one of these neighborhoods that is really cost-efficient ($60,000 or less)? Of course, our first priority is safety and we would like a neighborhood atmosphere where our kids can play outside with neighbor kids.
Any advice?
Michelle

Hello Michelle,

Realistically speaking, I think it will be difficult for you to find a home in those areas that you would feel comfortable living in, at that price point. It may be beneficial for you to visit Atlanta and tour the neighborhoods that you have an interest in. You need to get a feel for what is acceptable for you and your family and also speak with the neighbors in those communities It could be necessary for you to sell your home in Minnesota in order for you to purchase something that will fit your family's needs and desires.

If I can be of any service to you upon your visit to Atlanta, please do not hesitate to contact me. My web site is listed below. Please feel free to visit and search for your desired home at any time.

Greetings Michelle,
There are thousands of homes available currently that will meet your financial and geographic needs that may not meet your social requirements. You need to work with someone who is interested in saving you money and helping you meet your location and price parameters.

You may do yourself a favor by visiting the neighborhoood meetings of the areas that are of interest to you if you have the time. There you will get a good overview of the neighbors who are actively involved in the area.

I don't agree with the comments regarding your inablity to meet your goals. I list foreclosures for various lenders and am currently working with multiple buyers all under $75,000. Only two of them are investors, the remainder owner-occupants. My most eager client is looking at a property in rough shape on 1.02 acre priced at $46,000 INSIDE THE CITY OF ATLANTA!

NEVER SAY NEVER....You need to get a serious full-time realtor to help you meet your goals. You can get a house for that price, you just have to look, be patIent and dilligent.

GOOD LUCK!!

Hi Michelle,
I have to agree with Lisa about visiting the areas before making final decisions about where to go, I also recommend the following website for you to check out: www.City-Data.com, I also recommend using a REALTOR to assist you in the process and help meet your needs the best they possibly can.

You need to visit Atlanta and get a feel for these neighborhoods. Atlanta, particularly nice, safe, intown neighborhoods, is very expensive. $60k will probably not even buy you a small condo and it certainly wouldn't buy enough home for 2 adults and 3 kids (unless all the kids can be together in one bedroom). If you don't want to sell your home in Minnesota, your best choice is probably going to be renting while you're here. Good luck!

Michelle,

On your next trip to Atlanta, I would be happy to take you on a tour of the neighborhoods that qualify for the Imagine Wesley Academy - I believe that is the school that you are excited about. I am very interested in that school for my daughter in about 6 years, and I live nearby.

$60,000 is not going to satisfy your requirements for a large enough house in a neighborhood that makes you and your family happy.

If your stay in Atlanta is just a few years long, then you may want to look into a nice rental in Grant Park or Ormewood Park.

Michelle,

I hate to tell you, but you are going to have a hard time finding anything that low in any of those subdivisions. Even foreclosures are not that low.

Grant Park has one preforeclosure at $ 189,000 but other than that you are looking at minimum $ 250,000 and up. Same will pretty much go for these others you are looking at.

If you need any additional help to please let me know.
