Sandra, I have inspected several rental properties for buyers, owned by investors. Time and time again, I document safety hazards that landlords have not fixed, such as loose handrails, exposed wiring, inoperable GFCI outlets.
I encourage you to think about having a "pre-rental" inspection to alert you and your landlord of potential issues, and to document the conditions of the apartment or home. This will help protect you. About 5 years ago, a potential tenant contacted to inspect a home as the landlord wanted a very large security deposit. Fortunately, only a couple of minor issues were present.

Yes, it's doable. You should start your search at least 3 months prior to your anticipated move-in date. You will need an agent to begin making phone calls for you to touch base with homeowners to give them your information and to start giving you many options to choose from.

Certainly, a three month stay is possible. There are more three month rentals available locally during the summer months, which are the peak season. The prices will range greatly, since we have everything from one bedroom apartments in Red Bank to world-class waterfront estates along the Navesink River.
