Hi Vanessa:

That is a loaded question. 90016 zip code is a pretty big area. There are many parts which have descent areas where the crime has been reduced. LAPD has Senior Lead Officers assigned to all of the areas and they work in connection with the various neighborhoods, residents, city services and more to help aid and reduce crime in the areas.

Some of the things that LAPD and the neighborhood communities do to bring crime down are:
1. They have Block Clubs and Neighborhood Watch.
2. Community clean ups and graffiti removal.
3. They work with various city services to clean up problem areas and properties.
4. They have a gang and narcotics detail which works to remove these nuisances.
5. And new residences who purchase properties and move into the area tend to make their homes pride of ownership, which also deters crimes.

The better the neighborhood looks, the crime rate goes down.

One more thing that everyone can do to help is to add the MYLA311 application on your phone if you have an iphone or droid...you can report graffiti, bulky item pick ups, pot holes and more. It's a great tool to have!

Here is the link to LAPD: http://www.lapdonline.org/

If I may be of any assistance to you, feel free to contact me directly. I serve on the LAPD's Community Police Advisory Board at the Olympic Division LAPD, which part of 90016 is in their service area.

Feel free to use the FREE property search feature on my web site below.

Good luck!

All the best, and Happy New Year!

You can always find statistics at the local police department for crimes etc. Also there are sites for pedifiles and other local issues. The local fire department too..The inter city is different than the outer city for sure..if you think about it , the other aeras say like santa Monica or more west is somewhet isolated as far as police services etc. meani , as I was once told, the police for instance know when a crime is created or reported in a certain area ..the police know the escape routes of the bad people..if example a crime is created in santa Monica..there are only a few escape routes that a bad person can use...the 10 freeway if they can get to it otherwise the bad people get stuck and can not get out of the area into more population and escape routes..granted the bad people know as the police know---therefore: a lot less crime on the westside of LA period..else you get caught much easier..

how's that. in the intercity ..you can escape in ALL directions..so much more crimes..just facts that are universal really..but check withn the local police departments- it is never easy to control all crime in areas where crime rates are high..

Hey thanks...this area I am looking at is right next to Culver City..on Fairfax and adams...there is a ton of growth going on in Culver City...but this area is a few blocks east. Wondering if it is a safe area to by a house with a kid?

For the future of the City and crime, I suggest a discussion with the new Mayor!

The LA Times has a great crime map that shows all recent incidents right down to the street. You can search by neighborhood and see incidents block by block. http://maps.latimes.com/crime/

Hi Vanessa,

You can find crime information at http://www.bestplaces.net/crime/zip-code/california/los_ange…

Also the Crime Mapping site recommended by LAPD at http://www.crimemapping.com/map.aspx?aid=3db8cf99-a73b-46d2-… just enter the ZIP code where it says "Enter Address".

The city is always trying to clean up crime. Best to contact the LAPD for more information, as this is their area of expertize.
