Hi Victor, not trying to dodge your question, but crime and safety are a matter of personal opinion to a lot of people. Some people prefer a very very low crime rate and other believe that some isolated crime is acceptable. I would recommend checking the Atlanta Police crime maps. The link is below. Just for your knowledge, the East Lake area is considered to be Zone 6. I hope this helps. If you need help finding a home in that area, or any other area in Metro Atlanta, we'll be happy to help you. We were born and raised here. Thanks!

Victor -

East Lake, Oakhurst, and Kirkwood are all the same general area and police zone. In addition to checking with the Police Crime Maps, you may also want to talk to people residing in the area. My suggestion is to go to their Farmer's Market, Assoc Meetings, and some local hang outs. No area is immune from crime. And living in the City of Atlanta is very different from living in Valdosta.

Otherwise it is a good area to buy as far as values, access to other intown neighborhoods, and plenty of renovated homes. Of course, there are lots of factors to consider when relocating to a new area.

Good luck!
(btw - that house the other agent is promoting is far enough away from East Lake that it is a totally different feel than East Lake. as well as different zip code)

Well I see that the other agents have answer your question but I certainly recommend driving the area at various hours of the day and also visit the Dekalb County for a crime statistics website for all the infomation you are looking for. East Lake has a fabulous golf club and very close to downtown. Please feel to give me a call at 404-395-1371 or visit my webisite at http://www.atlantabeautifulhomes.com.

Victor,
In addition to the previous great suggestions, you should visit the neighborhood at various times of day/night, weekday/weekend. Walk around the neighborhood, and spend time just hanging out and observing the people you see. Ask yourself if you want these people for neighbors and friends. No amount of statistical data will give you as much insight into this or any neighborhood as your personal observations.

Great responses from the agents already, I just wanted to add that this listing I have is not far from East Lake, and I have several others that are coming available in the area. I am working directly with board members from the East Lake Foundation on these projects.
