Hello All, Anybody can explain why taxes, Perth Amboy NJ 08861, on apartments (2bedrooms and 2 baths) are too high. I do like that area

especially near the port but taxes are around $7000. it s like a second mortgage...

Cooper is on the money with and you should look into the links on his reponse.

I have had a number of listings in this area, at the Landings and Crows nest.
Some people are looking to appeal their taxes, but then again it is NJ.. and if you want to look at or live on the water.. the goverment, just like anyone else, would seem to be charging a premium.

The taxes are "too high" for your particular liking, there are may people who live there now paying those taxes and loving the location.

FIRST ANSWER

Taxes are based on two things - assessed value and tax rate. If you're referring to the area I think you are with the newer units, those are generally assessed higher because of how new they are, along with the modern amenities. Whether they should be assessed at that level is another question, but the only way you can try to get your taxes lowered is by appealing your taxes.
