HOA fees per month or per year

Asked by Vak, 30080 Tue Feb 19, 2008

Many houses in subdivisions have required HOA and it is listed in the ad.
But many of them do not indicate whether it's the amount per month or per year.
Which one is customary to list?
If it's either way then the question is if HOA is $240-$300 is it more likely to be per year or per month?
I can always contact the agent but you guys are my first choice :)

The majority of the single family homes HOA are listed as a yearly fee and some subdivisions give the homeowners the option to pay this fee quarterly or semi yearly. However, If this is a townhome, the HOA is a monthly amount. You can contact the agent or better yet contact the Subdivisions itself to get the correct amount and to find out when it is due and how payment is expected.

It’s annually & usually paid semi annually to the HOA. However, some might be paid monthly because of items like lawn service for the entire subdivision. It all depends on the subdivision & the HOA.

There's no clear answer to this without knowing about the specific property. Typically, for a single family dwelling the amount would be annual. The amount you mentioned seems pretty low for an HOA fee though for a home in the 200k and up range. It could be an older neighborhood with few amenities or just simply a well managed HOA and they have been able to keep their costs down.

Either way, HOAs are a good thing to look for when shopping. HOAs ensure that home owners maintain their properties to certain guidelines which in turn keeps home values up. HOAs, when well managed, will also keep the amenities and landscaping up to date. Again, increasing or maintaining the home values in the neighborhood. In some cases they can even provide the means to settle disputes with neighbors.

I hope this helps to not only answer your question but shop with knowledge.

Typically, condos and townhomes is monthly and houses are annually. The only exception would typically be if the HOA was providing all of the landscaping, then they may charge monthly.

Most likely it's a annual fee here in Georgia. Many people relocating from New York, California, etc. are used to these fees being charged monthly.

HOA dues are almost always reported by month.

Good Luck

Usually if it's townhomes you're looking at, the fee is monthly. If it is a single family home, these dues are yearly.

Hope that helps!
