HELP, i need home insurance!

Asked by Me, San Francisco, CA Wed Dec 4, 2013

Can you please advise any reputable and affordable home insurance company. I was told to stay away from companies that advertise such a Geico, Farmers, AAA, since those cahrge more in order to pay for advertising.

Any info is greatly appreciated!

Best thing to do is shop around. We have used the Robert Kennedy Insurance Agency for years.

I have found farmers to be quite competitive for single family homes. I find them high for condos. I use Tony Agosta 650-355-9645. AAA has been good for condos. Try April Dominguez at 650-301-1390. I have began using Steve Cresci Insurance. He is an independent representing several different companies and may be what you are looking for. He can be reached at 415-346-5403. Good luck.

Shop around by calling various companies or broker or agents and getting quotes for the coverage that you need. Make sure that you compare apples to apples. In other words, make sure the quotes are for the same level of coverage. Do not eliminate those companies that advertise. If their rates are the most attractive why do you care if they spend money advertising that fact?

customers pay for advertising by paying higher cost of insurance compared to those that do not heavily advertise...supposedly.

Ask your auto insurance company if they have home insurance.

All the best,

I would suggest you obtain several quotes and also not only look at the price yet what is really being offered in the coverage. I would also obtain quotes from the larger companies that you mentioned.
I wish you the best!

I would suggest that you pick up the phone and start calling around.

I agree with Lance, the best thing to do is shop around. You should get quotes from several different providers before you decide on one. Finding the right home insurance that fits your budget and needs is important, and you shouldn't rush into a decision about it.

Don't shop based on price alone and don't exclude them just because they advertise. Look at the customer satisfaction ratings, especially when it comes to claims, & their financial strength. Many of my clients have been choosing & are very happy with Farmer's & AAA.

(I will disclose that we do use AAA & I love them & my membership benefits: including great discounts at other retailers, not having to go to the DMV- that alone is worth it, the fact that they have rescued me when the car battery died- & it wasn't even my car but I was driving, when I have locked myself out of the car, when I had a flat tire, when I needed my car towed because something broke in the motor, & when I ran out of gas- even though I had forgotten to renew 3 weeks before. After making the list I am surprised they haven't kindly asked me to go to Geico).
