Though ultimately the buyer’s responsibility, the commission paid to the buyer’s agent (the Selling Broker) is generally paid by the seller. It is usually offset against the commission offered by the seller’s agent (the Listing Broker) in the Multiple Listing Service (MLS).
Now, keep in mind that what you (the buyer) agree to pay your agent in consideration of services may be different from what sellers authorize their agent to pay your agent for selling their home. So, while not typically the case, it is possible for the buyer to pay part of or all selling broker’s fee.
With all that said, it really depends on how the agreements in the real estate transactions are structured. So, it is important that you understand your agreements and available options so that you can make informed decisions.
