First time home buyer tax credit

Spatterson
Home Buyer
Mont Alto, PA

I purchased a house on 5/2009. I filed all the forms required for the first time home buyer tax credit. I have contacted the IRS many times, and they told me I wasn't gonna receive the tax credit. I normally don't file taxes because I receive Social Security Disability. I filed all the required forms to the IRS. Can anyone out there help me? I filed the taxes on 5/15/09!

I am not a tax professional nor have I ever played one on TV. You need to seek the council of a tax professional. That being said....

You filed your taxes in May of 09. This means you were shooting for the 2008 tax credit. The problem with this is that you purchased the property in 2009 and not in 2008. Now, in order to receive the 2009 tax credit, you will need to wait until you file your 2009 taxes, which will not be until 2010. The only thing that would hold you up then is not being a first time home buyer. For the Feds, this means not owning any home in the past three years.

Hope that helps,

I would encourage you to seek the advice of a tax professional on this one or perhaps someone through the tax advocacy program if you have limited resources. Here is a link for the tax advocate contact information: http://www.irs.gov/advocate/article/0,,id=147471,00.html
I hope this helps.
