Does secured credit cards really help your credit score? Where can my husband go to correct an incorrect report on his credit about a previous home?

Asked by Miata Walker, Dallas, TX Thu Jun 21, 2012

My score is 589. I've never purchased a home, and have excellent rental history. Changes at the job had me on payroll, but no hours for income caused me to be delinquent on everything and end up with a repo (2010). I now have a steady income & tired of renting. How do I start repairing my credit? A friend of mine told me to get a secured credit card. Does secured credit cards really help improve your credit score? My husband just found out about a false report on his credit report from a judgement 6 years ago with a home (buying a double wide, renting a lot; new manager was evicting non caucasian families but wouldn't let them rent out or move the home they were buying). Where/who can he go to to get it corrected?

Experian US handles its credit disputes in its National Consumer Assistance Center (NCAC) in Allen, Texas. You may contact the NCAC once you have a copy of your personal credit report by calling the number that is located on the personal credit report itself.

It will but make sure the following is true for maximum benefit.

1. Make 100% sure the bank reports your payments to the credit bureaus.

2. To get the maximum score bump never charge over 40% of the credit limit or you will negate much of the benefit. Paying it off in full each moth is not necessary and will not help your scores at all but charging over 40% will greatly reduce the benefit of having the trade line on your credit report.

Hope this helps.

Hi Miata,

The lender that I worked with can help you with your home lending. I had worked with her with many of my closing and some of the clients I had they had credit score as low as 540!

You can email me for her contact information!

I work with great credit repair companies and my understanding is yes the longer the history of payments will definitely help. Also go to trans union, equifax and experian and dispute directly. My understanding is they have 30 days to verify or remove. If medical and it is being reported by a third party it is also my understanding they must remove because by sharing your medical info they violated the HIPAA privacy law. Call, email or text with any questions, and if you wish me to set a personalized search for you send me your search criteria. I look forward to assisting you in your search.

Yes, I have been told that secure credit cards do help your FICO score. You should just call any lender of your choice to see if they will pre-qual you for free. There is usually no fee, unless they charge $15 for credit report BE CAREFUL OF LENDERS PROMISING TO REPAIR YOUR CREDIT. It can't be done. DID YOU UNDERSTAND? It can not be done. Only time and making good credit can.

I hope this helps.

GOOD LUCK.
