Specifically, any feedback regarding construction quality and customer service?
I built a new Forino home in 2002. I would say that they are not very customer friendly. During the whole time our home was being built, you are not even legally allowed to visit. To build a home is a home owners dream and with Forino they won't even allow you near it. Of course, we snuck in and went by many times while being built, but we weren't technically allowed.
The work and craftsmanship is that of your bottom grade or built for speed level. The use odd sized windows, etc. Try finding a screen door for a sliding door for a Forino home. I fixed many wall cracks and nail pops in my home over the years.
We recently sold it and bought a 5 year old home from another builder in the area, Greth. You can tell the construction and quality difference. Of course, the price was higher, but if you can afford it Greth is better.
I would personally buy another Forino home, but I am rather handy and great with the spackling and paint.
I purchased a St. Paul model in 2005 and so far, we have not had major problems with the home. The only things that bothered me were no medicine cabinets were installed in the bathrooms, and having someone come in to correct something in an unfinished area was not an option. Anything else they did come in to correct. Yes, their models are plain and the doors that bump into each other in some areas I consider poor design, but price wise, the homes cost about right.
I know many people who bought a Forino home and would never buy from them again. The company is probably the most afforadble builder in that area, makes you wonder why. I have heard many complaints about these homes too. Also have seen many of these homes and to many homes look the same. There is no uniqueness. You can spot a Forino developement a mile away. If you are looking at Forino for affordability, remember, you get what you pay for. I don't want to slam this builder, but I have not heard too many good things about their homes. If you could, look at other builders and start to negotiate with them. You might be surprised. However, if you can wait till next year when prices continue to drop you may get a really great deal with another builder. Good Luck!
I bought a Forino home, it sucks... In my oppinion they use cheap material and give horrible customer service. Our driveway is all pitted, rocks coming through because the coat is so thin, the grass is very patchy, they offer topsoil 6 inches deep, well... they planted our grass in the existing clay, large rocks all over the place, half the grass didnt grow. Our basement floor and walls cracked all over the place and to fix it they brought a grinder in and filled the cracks with epoxy. It looks like sheeet. I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM FORINO HOMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pay a little more and get a well built home!!
They are the areas largest builder - have fantastic "standard" specs that allow for a complete house and affordable extras/options that allow for customization if your budget allows for that. There are several developments throughout Berks County to chose from - have sold homes to many satisfied customers who appreciate the final product.
Cannot answer directly from personal experience but as an agent that works in new construction and builds new construction, one of the first things you might want to look at is there standard specification sheet. Almost all builders will have a spec sheet for their models and quick comparison with another builder will tell you some quality differences and well as some items that might cost you extra if you went with another builder. Bigger builders have the advantage of quantity but sometimes lack the quality because of lack of supervising among all the jobs. MIdsize builders will typically have good combination of both but still may lack some flexibility because of their larger size. Smaller builders may have a larger mark-up but they also may have better tracks land because they do not typically do developments. By using a smaller builder you could have a unique location and floorplan for close to the same price if not less. Just some food for thought.
You might want to visit one of their developments and ask the residence(s) Real estate professionals per the code of ethics can’t make those comments if you work positively in concert with your real estate agent I am assured you will have solutions to all of your questions resolved.
