Hi Saul,

I do not believe that you need a SSN to purchase a house with cash since foreign nationals can own property in the US but because of the Patriot Act I am not sure what requirements you would need to clear with paying cash. A good real estate attorney would be able to answer this.

Thanks!

Jeff

Saul,

The title company will require a passport as form of ID.

Govt issued ID or Passport from country of origin should be enough, but do consult with a Real Estate Attorney.

If you are paying with $50,000 or more the money must be wired in, not a cashier's check. Title companies do not take actual "cash". You will need a government issued ID to have some paperwork notarized. However, talk to a real estate attorney about you particular situation.

Dear Saul,

At my closing this year my clients have only had a valid stat issue ID for the two cash closing I did in May.

I dont believe so since a lot of foreign investors do this, but not sure how it works with citizens. I would speak to your attorney.
