Do you get more for your money to buy a 1 or 2 acre lot and build or buy new home in development??
Looking in Berks County, Daniel Boone Schools. Building lots seem to range from 70k-160k, seems like prices are very high for just an acre or two. Not sure if I will save money to buy a lot and build or just buy new in a development..most of the development homes I like are in the 400-450k range...it seems high for a house on .33-.50 acre. I had a great experience with Berks Homes about 8 years ago, but they are not doing any scattered site construction anymore. Any suggestions? Builders with good reputations?
It all depends on the total cost of the new construction versus the cost of land plus design plus bldg permit plus septic and well (if no public water and sewer). Building costs vary between $150 to $200+ per square foot. The cheaper the square foot cost, the more "builder grade" materials will be used (e.g. formica vs. corian,etc).
