Do/can people swim in Parkwood Lake in Fort Collins? There seem to be a lot of small lakes in the area in general... does anyone swim in them?

Parkwood Lake is a bit unclean this is why no one swims in it. Most neighborhoods these days have clean, safe pools that they enjoy instead. Many of the smaller lakes you see are not used for swimming because it is unsafe or not sanitary. I hope this helps!

Hi Rebecca,

Most HOAs go on record to disallow swimming in these lakes. Primarily, there is the liability especially where there are no life guards. Since Parkwood and other neighborhoods have pools with life guards, this is encouraged. I hope that answers you question adequately.

I live in Parkwood right now and swimming is not allowed but boating is. A lot of the water is runoff from the streets. We just added a couple of new docks.

If you live in the neighborhood we have a wonderful pool that has lifeguards and a diving board. Its a great clean place to swim right in the neighborhood.

Rebecca,

I grew up in the Parkwood Neighborhood and back in 70's we did swim, canoe and fish. It is not clean water and I would consider that water to be mostly run off from the streets. I think in the middle of the pond it may only be 10ft deep and the bottom is just thick mush. If it had a stream that was continually running into and out of the pond then it may be a bit safer.

Parkwood has access to the lake through the HOA and does allow boating. I doubt there are restrictions to swimming but contacting the HOA can provide the definitive answer. There are other neighborhood lakes that have lake privileges such as Warren Lake and the Hearthfire development for the homeowners. If you do want to have access to a lake for swimming I'm sure that could be found. I hope that helps. If you need more exact information as to possibilities, I would be happy to research the options.

I think one of the reasons it is not common is because there are not beaches or swim areas with sand, just muddy rocky shores.
