Thinking about possibility of buying 2 bedroom condo - that she could share, and that would be great rental property if/when she leaves the area.

Look for a multi family in which you could rent one unit and live in the other practically rent-free. That way your daughter doesnt have to rely on roommates in her own space.

Here are a few suggestions on location:

Melrose:

Medford:

Winchester:

Wakefield:

Hope that helps!

Jeanne you should have her consider moving just 10 minutes more north into NH with NO income or Sales tax. There are many towns large and small on the MA border that many similar young professionals choose. There is Salem NH, Plaistow, Pelham and 5 more minutes from the border is the very upscale Windham NH. The best part is if she move sto NH, i can help her. Nice seeing your post, it has been a while.

Hi Jeanne,

I'm a real estate sales person with Otis & Ahearn in Boston, MA. As you may know, Andover is about an hour from Boston on the Northshore. Does your daughter have a car? There is a limited inventory of 2 bedroom apartments for sale in Boston. What would your budget be for this unit? There are some other some other cities like Cambridge and Somerville that have young professionals and is a little closer to Andover. Please call my cell at 617-596-6478 if I can be of help going forward. Regards, Joanne

Hi Joanne, that is my thought, yes, she has a car, so thinking a midpoint between two - so she can reach her workplace and Boston easily and be in an area that would appeal to young people working in and outside of Boston for current and later rentals. I am an agent myself so I will be looking for a referral relationship with whomever sells us the place.

Hi Jeanne,
This depends on the budget you have in mind. Of course city living is ideal for a young person. However, city dwelling comes with a premium.
I d recommend Cambridge or Somerville. They have all you want.
Please check out our website, link below, for a quick free search of what is available in Cambridge and Somerville in your price range.
Kind regards,

There are so many areas this covers and I do not think one agent would cover the entire area. Most good agents will cover micro markets so it may be best to work with several agents. Rentals are in ultra high demand and you may be shocked at the prices but it is best to cast a wide net and narrow it to the areas that catch your daughter's eye. Look for a FULL time rental Realtor to help. Areas that you may want to look at

Davis Square
Teele Square
Harvard Square
Porter Square
Cambridge
Back Bay
Beacon Hill
Kenmore
The Fenway

The list can go on and on. It maybe helpful to look at http://www.blockavenue.com or http://www.walkscore.com

There are a few great locations for young professionals in Boston. A few of them include Fenway, Backbay, Kenmore, Brighton, Jamaica Plain, Brookline, south end, and Mission Hill. Let me know if she is interested I can show her a few condos in those areas. Some amenities in those areas include easy T access, shops, restaurants, lounges, and many other activities. Also these areas offer a great advantage when is time to rent as they are highly sought after by renters specially young professionals and the rents usually can surpass what your monthly mortgage payments can be. Let me know if you have any questions. I'd love to help out. You can start searching some of these areas in my site at http://www.realtyaplus.com/buy

Hi Jeanne,

First of all, congratulations to your daughter. It's always great to hear when someone lands a new job. I myself relocated to Boston almost 30 years ago for work and I was a bit overwhelmed by the many options in terms of neighborhoods.

KNow as a Realtor I specialize in relocation clients in order to prevent them for being as overwhelmed as I was.

Please feel free to call me or have your daughter contact me so we can discuss in more detail what she would like in terms of local fun things to do and amenities. You can call me directly at 617.899.3162.

Hi, Jeanne ~

There are many great communities to live in between Andover and Boston, Andover included. The trick is finding a location that would be a good investment property down the line... So, you want to own a place that is on either the T or Commuter Rail that would make it an easy commute into the city....

Reading, Wilmington, Melrose & Malden are all on the Commuter Rail... Malden is one of the more reasonably priced with decent rental income potential due to its proximity to Boston and the fact that it's also on the Orange line T...

I'd be happy to help you in your search... My specialties are Buyer's Agency and Rental properties.

Best wishes,
Stephen
