Commute to NYC is great. They have a Park-N-Ride to Port Authority. If you drive to NYC , GSP is very close.
For schools, please refer to http://www.greatschools.net. Depending on the exact address of the house you buy, School will be different, especially the Elementary and Middle.

In NJ schools are rated by the state by a letter code, A (lowest) through J (highest), called District Factor Groups (DFGs). You can find the complete list at http://www.state.nj.us/education/finance/sf/dfg90.shtml. Are you looking in the Old Bridge section or the Sayreville section? Note the difference in the DFGs.

Do you intend to commute by car, or do you want to take the train (the South Amboy station of the North Jersey Coast Line might be a good choice for you; look at the schedules and rates).
