I suggest you the the city of Aventura around the golf course ( Country Club drive) it is quiet, lots of green areas and close to Aventura mall. You will love it. I live nearby and I know the area very well.
Consider Miami Shores to purchase/rent a home if you are relocating to south Florida with your dog. It is a family oriented, peaceful and quite area which offers opportunities for a wide range of activities. It has an excellent golf course as well as facilities for other games like tennis, soccer, baseball etc.
Your dog will love it here, too! The city has 11 parks and if your dog likes beaches there is a dog beach only 15-20 minutes away.

My name is John B. Anderson and I have been a REALTOR for more than 22 years, in Miami. There are a great deal of folks who may be licensed but are not good choices for a variety of reasons. The best things you can do to assure that you find a great agent are these, ask about experience, be sure that they are familiar with the local market to your desired area, and ask them to show you proof of recent transactions and the corresponding HUD-1 closing statements. This is very important in Miami.
That being said,
Coral Gables is considered close-in to downtown and represents a good value in some ways. The homes and lots will be small and of older construction until the price climbs above $450,000 or so. Truly a beautiful city with much to offer.
South Miami, an excellent value with more size in house and lot and comparable location and quality of life to Coral Gables.
If you want to be a little more relaxed and out of the hustle and bustle without leaving the general area, Palmetto Bay has big homes, big lots, excellent neighborhoods and school [appreciation] without the price premium at time of purchase. [Great Value]
Pinecrest is high-priced and prestigious.
Avoid western locales unless it is desired for your needs as the congestion may affect quality of life.
Experience- over 3-5 years may be very sufficient as long as they closed many deals that correspond with the type of property you are buying. Condos, Townhomes, Single Family residences are NOT the same thing, and forget warehouses and/or rentals- They need to be knowledgeable regarding what you are choosing. Ask about certifications as well, or background. A mother of three who has been at home for the last 8 years and is returning to the workforce as a licensee to make part-time money, well... Look for professional designations/certifications such as GRI. Graduaute Realtors Institute, thats a big one and there are others. [beware some cert.s can be had in a four hour course]
Local knowledge- How long have they been active in the neighborhoods you are searching in? Ask to see sale info. of addresses corresponding in those areas where your prospective agent has made a sale, with details.
The HUD-1 is the real deal! - Many offices are charging JUNK FEES to the buyer. A HUD-1 will show this. Also, what concessions were negotiated in the transaction that may be beneficial to you in yours? i.e. Seller contribution.
Lastly, avoid office with tons of agents, it just means they will hire anybody. Look for a strong office. This does not mean one of the big chains, by any means! Your agent should be very strong on finance, specifically mortgage financing, and some taxation subjects. If not, quack, quack, he/she is a duck.
Next BE SURE you get an attorney on your side, in your corner, to review your contract [a must] and conduct your interests forward through closing. A good real estate attorney will review your GFE to be sure you are getting a good mortgage. And guess what, The cost to have a reputable real estate attornney handle all aspects in a normal transaction may not exceed, as little as $700.00. [minimum needs in a clean transaction, contract review and HUD-1 review, you don't need them to attend your closing if all is handled well ahead of time]

Besides the dog, do you guys have children living with you also? If the answer is yes, you will also need a neighborhood with great schools.
To determine which area will best meet your wants and needs will be important to know if you will be working and where will your office be as well as other important things like what type of property will you like (townhouse, condo, single family home, etc). Are you looking to rent or buy? Will you like a pool, a tennis court, close to beaches, how many rooms, other amenities?

My suggestion to you is pick one, the one that you feel more comfortable with, the one yo feel you can trust and will work hard in your best interest and have that person look for properties and send you those that are to your specifications. It is important to know how soon are you planing in moving and/or buying/renting the property. The way the market is going, there are good opportunities but they don't last long. If you are planing in buying and financing the property (interest rates are very low now), you will need to get pre-qualified as with the offer is needed to present the pre-approval letter or if buying cash, the proof of funds.
