KRG, Both Buyer and Seller in Boston, MA

Considering moving to Dorchester Carruth area. Thoughts on safety @ Ashmont T station? I've seen Trulia stats but would like local's opinion.

Its all subjective but there is an invisible line that you can sense when you walk from one end of ashmont station to the next or even behind ashmont vs in front. I've lived here for 10 years and have outgrown the nonsense on my end of Ashmont and would prefer living on the quieter end but the cost is drastically increased for that convenience. Walk around on a bright & sunny Saturday afternoon to judge the neighborhoods accurately.

We as agents/broker's cannot comment on safety. Best advice is to walk around the area and get a feel for it & also check with BP.

Best Of Luck.

My advise would be to visit the properties that you may be interested in. Hang out for a while and get to meet the locals. You can also visit the local authorities for that area and they can give you an idea of what to expect.

The best way to go about this would be to take a day or two and wander around the neighborhood, that way you get a first hand feel for the area and get to meet the locals.

Such a fun & green location....walk to the train & a 26 acre park, or the ocean in the same amount of time....

Here is a great website to help answer safety questions. You can look up crime stat's on individual streets:

Here is every active and updated property on the market for sale in Dorchester displayed on a map:

Here are some listings by the Ashmont T:

Hope that helps!

I am a resident here... Even thought some shady elements still exist late at night, I feel that the area is constantly improving. More and more professionals, families, academics and city/ state employees are moving into the area. Ever since the rebuilding of the T station, more upscale restaurants are here too. The convenience into the city is unsurpassed at 15 min to Downtown crossing on the T, and a quick drive onto the highway. The prices of properties here are still affordable, but more and more people are catching on, and hence I believe that values will rise.

Check out http://www.trulia.com/real_estate/Boston-Massachusetts/crime/

Visit the neighborhood and check out the Boston Police website and/or visit the substations in the area.
