300K will buy alot of house these days, and financing opportunities are excellent for those currently serving our country and for veterans. 300K for 5 beds w/MIL might be stretching it a bit though. It depends on the location. I work with an excellent lender who can answer any new construction loan questions you might have. Tampa is awesome but may I suggest you also look in St. Petersburg. We have the Ray's Baseball team (season upon us), gorgeous Downtown waterfront for all to enjoy (walkability) and St. Pete. is much closer to the beaches. Ft. Desoto state park with its miles of pristine beaches is great for picnics, fishing, camping and boating. The Dali and Chihuly art museums are located here too to entertain out of town company. Senior services here are great. Before you buy/build in Tampa, check out our Sunshine City. I've lived in the Tampa Bay area for 62 years and know it very well. St. Pete and Tampa are connected by bridges and only 20 mins. apart. For homes with mother in law quarters try looking in the Old Northeast section of town, red brick streets, mature landscaping and location (Zip 33704)! So much to say...well, BEST OF LUCK in your search and don't hesitate to call or write. http://www.MyFloridaHeaven.com

I forgot to mention that the Cardel home I used as an example could have a 5th bedroom in the main house by choosing the option to convert the formal dining room into a bedroom. Thus, you would have 5 bedrooms plus a MIL. In the MIL, you would also have options for how complete you would want the bathroom and

In a wonderful community called Mirabay, you can build a home by Cardel Homes called the Coral Harbor 2. It would have 4 bedrooms in the main house and a suite above the garage. Attached or detached would be your choice. The base price for this home would be around $280. Then, for under 300k, you would still have plenty of room to add your chosen upgrades.
The home could be built and ready for you when you move. The sooner you contact me, the sooner I can get you more information and started on the process. I am signing a contract with another military family tomorrow in that same community as a matter of fact.
If you'd like, check out the builders website but be sure to contact me directly to negotiate the best deal for you.
Also, I work with a program called Homes for Heroes. Being a military family you would receive a rebate from me that would be transferred upon closing.

Dear Army Family,

Here are a few to consider, the last one needs rehab but could be a dream home by the time it's renovated:

Is the MIL cottage one of the five bedrooms? Most homes in the Tampa area under 300k if not older and in the city area are not built with a MIL. You will find many homes built with a 3 way split so a guest suite sits towards the back of the home separate from the other bedrooms or a bonus room. I would be happy to help you with any of your questions about Tampa real estate. Thanks!

The initial answer would be yes, but alot of variables need to be answered as to what you and your family really want. Please feel free to call me so that we can find out whether 300k or even less will get you what you want.

Sure you can--shoot me your email (or sign up yourself below), and I'll send you some possibilities from Listingbook.
My recommendation would be to find something with the necessary square footage and add or subdivide to suit...let me take a look. Are you wishing to stay near MacDill?

You can absolutely find a 5 bedroom home in Tampa Bay for under $300K - maybe even new construction. I've represented several buyers in finding a new construction home and was able to get them tens of thousands off the asking price. Please shoot me an email if you'd like to see some area new construction homes. Also read this on buying new: http://www.lianejamason.com/featured/ask-a-realtor-do-i-need…
