Can someone help me out on how I go about getting taxes re-assessed for a property that I am in the process?

of purchasing, and is it possible to have them lowered before I close? The atty has said and I agree that the taxes on the property to him seem extremely high. The purchase price is 275K in Middletown, NY. Thank you

Hi Carolyn
Most municipalities only allow appeals during a certain time period, usually for a couple weeks in March or April. You should call Middletown's city hall or the county and see what their process is.

Sorry to say you're probably S-O-L, regardless of how you or your agent feels.

You'll never know though unless you call, and it's worth a shot. Best of luck and congratulations on your new home!
