Franklin Lakes does have a main street that is Franklin Avenue with small businesses and shopping. They just had their town fair last weekend and it is a great community. It depends on what you are looking for in a home. Homes in Franklin Lakes will generally have larger lot sizes and lower taxes than other towns on a rail line. (Glen Rock, Ridgewood, Ramsey, Allendale). There is a bus line now that goes from Port Authority to the VFW hall on Franklin Ave. Commute will be about an hour 15 minutes during the week. The population and town is smaller than say Ridgewood and less traffic too. So it just depends on your taste of where you want to live and what your needs are. Please give a call if I can assist you further!

Franklin Lakes is wonderful community - and we have 'access' to the nearby towns with a Main Street feeling - and also have direct access to major thoro-fares and local shopping mall areas. Ridgewood offers a movie theater and the downtown feeling plus a train station - and the train also stops in Glen Rock and Ramsey ...
These towns all are located within a 5/10 minute ride from most areas in Franklin Lakes. Not only do I sell Real Estate in this area, but I've also live here and raised my family in the community - AND have lived at 4 different addresses within the town! .... If there is anything I can do to answer ANY question about the area, please feel free to call or email me - at your convenience ... I am sure I can answer just about any question you may have - and if not, I def know where to go to get the answers.
Looking forward to hearing from you,

In addition to the 2 you mention the other 2 that you might consider are Ramsey and Allendale both of which have "main streets" with shops, restaurants and so on.
Not so many years ago Franklin Lakes was pretty much farmland with a small village, maybe 3 blocks long
When they started building there almost the whole think was large houses with at least 1 acre lots so the whole town is very spread out.
Franklin Lakes is a great town to live in, but if you are looking for a comparable area with a "town" I recommend Wyckoff, which is right next door and shares the same high schools as Franklin Lakes and Oakland. Wyckoff has a quaint downtown area with a Starbucks, Stop and Shop, several delicious restaurants and more.

Franklin Lakes is a sought residential suburban community and one of the most expensive
areas in NJ. While Forbes ranked Franklin Lakes schools in the Top 25, unfortunately they do not have a "town" or "downtown" in its borough. It is mostly a residential community.
The nearest cities with walkable towns are as you mentioned Ridgewood, Glen Rock, and Ramsey.
So while Franklin Lakes has many beautiful homes to offer, if having a town is most important to you
then you may want to consider one of the nearby cities.
What email can I send choice listings for you to look at?
