Can a non resident alien on work visa buy a house in the US? What are the downpayment requirements?

Its possible. I work with many foreign and out of state buyers with purchasing homes here.
Downpayment depends on the type of loan you are securing.
Consult with a mortgage lender to assist you.

Yes you can buy a home. There are options from a conventional 30 year to an FHA that would be available to you. There is additional paperwork and other requirements that would be needed in order to get the mortgage. Yes I am doing one right now. Depends on the VISA type, expiration date and type of property being bought.
