Buy land or House in Tampa?

Asked by Sijal Aziz, Orlando, FL Wed May 8, 2013

From Investment point of view, if you have little money to invest, should you buy lot or home? What are the safe areas in Tampa to buy lots in?

From an investment perspective, there are still great values coming onto the market regularly and as Alma states, it is much more cost effective to purchase resale homes than build. There are still locations in which you can find newer construction, in pretty good condition in the low $100's. If you do the math, purchasing the lot, getting permits, and the cost of building will add up very quickly.

Good luck,

Definitely a home. It's more expensive to build than buy an existing home. Also a vacant lot is hard to find in the most desirable areas. You can get a mortgage to leverage your investment on a home but not likely on a vacant lot that you will surely have to buy with all cash. We still have positive cash flow properties that you can buy and rent out.
